Knysna is situated in the heart of the Garden Route and is a very convenient base from which to experience all the marvellous attractions and exciting activities.
There is so much to do in and around Knysna, most visitors who spend only two or three days in Knysna usually regret that they did not allow more time to discover the many wonders of the area.
Fishing, sailing and kayaking on Knysna Lagoon are very popular. If Golf is your game there are a number of very good golf courses to choose from. For Nature and eco lovers there are hiking trails, bird, dolphin & whale watching. Knysna also boasts some of the best Adventure Activities. For the more sedate there is always shopping and eating at the numerous shops and restaurants in Knysna and along the Garden Route. These are just some of the things to keep visitors busy in and around Knysna.
THINGS TO SEE AND DO
Birds of Eden
Birds of Eden's unique two hectare dome (the World’s largest) spans over a gorge of indigenous forest. The sanctuary has its own mysterious ruin, which incorporates a walk-behind waterfall. Another feature is its amphitheatre, which has the ability to seat over 200 visitors.
Monkeyland
Monkeyland has captured the hearts of visitors in its efforts to rehabilitate and free previously caged primates. The sanctuary is exceptional as it caters for several species of primates who are not caged. They are free to move about the forest and this they do most harmoniously.
Paragliding in the Garden Route
The Garden Route is renowned for paragliding and hang gliding. The numerous launch sited cater for most wind conditions. The spectacular views of Sedgefield and Widerness are an added bonus. A number of companies offer tandem flights for the novice and paragliding courses for the more adventurous.
Adventure Land
Great fun and sports for the whole family at Adventure Land water park on the N2 near Plettenberg Bay.
Set in a beautiful natural setting on a 24 hectare estate, Adventure Land offers you a day never to forget. Relax on the large lawns or on one of the wooden decks and enjoy the water activities and playground. For the hungry, there is a take-away kiosk.
Knysna Elephant Park
Feed, ride and walk with the elephants.
Your elephant encounter starts in the Interpretation Centre where you are introduced to the elephants, through beautiful photographs and informative displays. Here you can also book an elephant-back ride, a sunrise walk with the elephants or special exclusive sundowner tour. A short video presentation gives you further insight into the Park and its elephant-orientated missions and goals, you then enter the Park to meet the elephants.
